Using & Buying Hametz After Pesach
Using Hametz After Pesah: Please wait till after 10:00 PM to consume any of your Hametz that was sold through the agency of R. Helfgot
Buying Hametz After Pesah: There is a rabbinic injunction on using Hametz after Pesah that was in the possession and ownership of a Jew on Pesah. As such one would not be allowed to purchase Hametz at any Jewish owned store,or company or distributor who did not sell their Hametz before Pesah. There is a dispute amongst the poskim of the previous generation if it is permitted to buy Hametz from a Jewish owned store that sold its Hametz before Pesah, but continued to sell that Hametz over Pesah itself. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, of blessed memory, was lenient in this regard and many communities rely upon that ruling. As such here are some basic information for purchasing Hametz after Pesah in our area:
1. All stores under the RCBC sold their Hametz through the RCBC and can be patronized immediately. 2. Shoprite in New Milford, Costco, BJ's, Walmart, CVS, Walgreen's are all owned by non-Jews and can be patronized immediately. 3. Stop and Shop is owned by non-Jews but its main supplier, is owned by Jews,. However, Rabbi Elazar Teitz of Elizabeth, NJ arranged for the selling of their Hametz and can thus be patronized immediately according to the view of Rabbi Feinstein z"l. 4. Shoprite in Paramus and Englewood are owned by Jews, but their Hametz was sold through R. Teitz in Elizabeth and thus can be patronized immediately according to the view of Rabbi Feinstein z"l.
