Youth Director Position
Netivot Shalom is looking for a dynamic part-time Youth Director to expand, enrich, and coordinate Shabbat, holiday and special programming. The Youth Director works with the Youth Committee to organize special activities and innovative programs for youth from nursery through high school. The Director coordinates and oversees youth groups on Shabbat and holidays, trains group leaders to effectively implement programming in groups, and supervises group leaders.
Ideal candidate would have some experience developing programs for kids and teens. Teaching experience is a plus, but not a must. Must have an abundance of creative ideas and excellent follow-through. We are looking to hire someone to begin Fall 2019. This could be a long term opportunity for the right candidate. Interested candidates should send a resume and cover letter to Pam Scheininger.

Project S.A.R.A.H., the state wide domestic violence and sexual abuse project for Jewish families in New Jersey’s 13th annual breakfast, celebrating our 23 years of service to the community will take place on Sunday April 7th, 9:30-11:30 AM. It will be held at Congregation Keter Torah - 600 Roemer Avenue, Teaneck. The Honorees are Guests of Honor: Dr. Ephraim and Dr. Chava Casper; Rabbinic Supporter Award: Rabbi Menachem and Mrs. Sarah Genack; Volunteer Recognition Award: Mrs. Mandy Richman. The Keynote Speaker will be Saranne Rothberg on “How to Use Humor, Laughter and Play as Your Personal Stressbusters."

Adler Aphasia Center Spring Boutique
Something Special, our vocational artisan program in which our stroke and brain injury survivors with aphasia design and handcraft unique jewelry and gifts, will be hosting its annual Spring Boutique and Open House on Wednesday, April 3rd from 10:30 am – 7:30 pm at Adler Aphasia Center, located at 60 West Hunter Avenue in Maywood.
A large selection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants, desk items and hostess sets in a price range of $10 to $60 will be available. Our couture line of one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces will also be available for purchase. Proceeds support our Scholarship Fund so that no one is turned away from participating in our programs. Every item comes with a bio of the artisan who has handcrafted the jewelry or gift piece, helping raise awareness about aphasia. Many of our artisans will be on hand to greet attendees. There is no cost to attend. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given away.

Dr. Malka Z. Simkovich - Scholar in Residence this Shabbat
Dr. Malka Z. Simkovich will be joining Netivot Shalom as Scholar in Residence on Shabbat, March 16th. Among her accomplishments, Dr. Simkovich is the Crown-Ryan Chair of Jewish Studies and director of the Catholic-Jewish Studies program at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, as well as a Core Faculty member of Drisha Institute.

Netivot Shalom invites you to participate in our annual Purim Mishloach Manot fundraiser . Your participation in this effort enables us to raise necessary funds for Netivot Shalom. All of our members will receive mishloach manot and we look forward to reaching 100% participation in sponsorships this year. 15th Annual Netivot Shalom Wine and Cheese Tasting Party

Started in 2017 by Bergen County Freeholder Tracy Zur, We The People strives to bring together middle school aged students from across Bergen County to work on service projects while learning that we are all more alike than we are different. This year we are aiming for 400 students between 5th and 8th grade to join us for our annual Day of Service on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
The students will be completing such tasks as: making blankets for seniors and small children, packing hygiene kits for the homeless, decorating and packing activity bags for children at Hackensack University Medical Center, creating "Go Bags" for children in the foster care system and Shelter for Hope and Safety.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 6th at 11am at Schwartz Brothers Memorial Chapel, 114-03 Queens Blvd., Forest Hills, NY 11375 followed by burial at Beth Israel Cemetery Woodbridge, NJ Dynower K.U.V. Block, Row G.

26th Annual Bergen County Toy Drive
Our shul is once again participating in The 26th Annual Bergen County Chanukah Toy Drive. We are collecting new and unwrapped toys and gifts for children and young adults going through trying times. Please drop off your donations at the Cohen Residence, 914 Ridgeway St., Teaneck, from now until Monday, November 26th. The Bergen County Toy Drive is a great collaborative effort across many Bergen County Jewish Schools, Synagogues and Temples and donates to 18 different charity organizations. Your donations will help us share the excitement of Chanukah with thousands of children and young adults. This is a great opportunity to involve your children in the mitzvah of tzedakah!

Please note that as an added measure of safety for the times when we don't have CSS patrols, the front doors of the shul will be locked 10 minutes after the scheduled time for Mincha on Friday afternoon and on Shabbat afternoon. This Shabbat, November 17th, our Rabbinic Intern Marianne Novak will be visiting us. The title of her Drasha is "How Rachel and Leah, their relationship and their descendants are a template for entire Jewish history: מעשה אמהות סימן לבנים--The Actions of the Mothers are a symbol to the sons".
Marianne will also be giving a shiur for girls in grades 5-8 on Shabbat afternoon at 3:40pm titled "Rachel and Leah- Best Sisters or not?".

For the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey’s Mitzvah Day, on November 18th, Netivot Shalom will be participating in two collections. The first is for new, unopened puzzles—for ages 8 to 98—to be distributed to patients at the Carrier Clinic for Behavioral Healthcare & Addiction Treatment in Belle Meade, NJ. The second is for children’s clothing in good condition to be sent to Yad Leah for distribution to needy communities in Israel.
Debra and Jon Passner have volunteered their back porch, 563 Cumberland Avenue, as a drop-off site. For more information, contact Sarah Dauber or Sima Kern.

Our shul is once again participating in The 26th Annual Bergen County Chanukah Toy Drive. We are collecting new and unwrapped toys and gifts for children and young adults going through trying times. Please drop off your donations at the Cohen Residence, 914 Ridgeway St., Teaneck, from now until Friday, November 23rd. The Bergen County Toy Drive is a great collaborative effort across many Bergen County Jewish Schools, Synagogues and Temples and donates to 18 different charity organizations. Your donations will help us share the excitement of Chanukah with thousands of children and young adults. This is a great opportunity to involve your children in the mitzvah of tzedakah!

Global Day of Learning
The Global Day of Jewish Learning is an initiative of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz to unite the Jewish people through study of our shared texts. Netivot Shalom joins with hundreds of communities across the contents in learning - this year's theme is Extraordinary Passages: Text and Travel.
The shiur will be presented between Mincha and Ma'ariv, this Shabbat, November 10th, on the topic "Albert Einstein’s 2 Greatest Mistakes and Torah."
This year's speaker is Rabbi Dr. Matisyahu Shulman. Rabbi Shulman is an addiction psychiatry fellow at Columbia University Medical Center and psychiatrist at Flat Rock Psychiatry in Teaneck.

Update on the Heat
The replacement for the heating system in the sanctuary will not be installed in time for Shabbat. However, last week we used the one working unit for Shabbat morning and the sanctuary was warm. In order to avoid overextending the working unit, we will use it for Shabbat morning only. Evening services on Friday and Shabbat will be in the Social Hall if the Sanctuary is too cold. Please make every effort to attend. The heating system in the social hall/upstairs is working as usual.

We have restructured the youth groups to provide a better flow and experience for everyone. The schedule along with important safety information can be found on the Youth Program page on the Netivot Shalom website. The new group schedule will start after Labor Day.

This Shabbat, September 22nd, Netivot Shalom will be hosting a kiddush in honor of Yoetzet Halalcha, Tova Warburg Sinensky. Tova will be giving a shiur after tefilla titled, "The Jewish Rainmaker: Ancient Text, Modern Meanings".

Simchat Torah Kiddush
It's time to look forward to another great Simchat Torah kiddush. This kiddush is an event for the entire kehila. Please join in sponsoring this annual event by completing our sponsorship FORM . (Please fill out the form and charge to "account" even if you plan on sending in a check. It helps us to ensure you will be added to the sponsorship list and your payment will be property credited.)
There are four opportunities to give: Sponsor - $250, Supporter - $150, Donor - $100, Friend - $50
In addition to being a wonderful way to finish the Yom Tov season, the kiddush is a major fundraiser for our shul.
